Love is in the air in young Hollywood.
Actors Mo McRae and Lex Scott Davis are married—the newlyweds tied the knot on Sunday, July 21.
The couple met while filming 2018’s The First Purge. After having instant chemistry between them at the cast meet and greet before filming began, they became good friends and soon realized they were soul mates.
They made it official at the altar last month in an intimate garden ceremony in Fallbrook, California. The couple chose to have an “unplugged” ceremony and asked their friends and family not to use their phones during the day’s events.
The bride stunned in a Lorenzo Rossi wedding dress and a custom veil by Rochelle Carino. She walked down the aisle in Jimmy Choo shoes and ear cuffs from Rebeka Ben-Haim. McRae donned a custom tuxedo by Stacy Branden.
The couple tells ESSENCE there were lots of special moments to cherish throughout their wedding day. For instance, they wrote their own vows to share with one another. “That was really special,” Davis, 28, shares. “Also taking a moment to look out at all of our guests while we were at the altar was really special too because I think some people don’t remember to do that. It happened so fast, and I’m really glad that we did take in all the moments.”
It’s safe to say the new Mr. and Mrs. McRae are on cloud nine and still reminiscing about the magic of their wedding day. “It was like a dream,” recalls Davis. “I remember we woke up the next morning, and it felt like we lived a real fairy tale.”
The happy couple got engaged in August 2018, but not before McRae asked Davis’s father for his blessing and gave her mother a sneak peek at the engagement ring, which he designed himself just for his ladylove. McRae popped the question while they were on their way home from a day at the beach. “Along the road, I pulled over and found this peak overlooking the water and Palos Verdes as the sun was setting,” McRae, 37, tells ESSENCE. “I made her think we were making a stop motion video, just like messing around and being creative, but really I was filming the proposal moment.”
McRae is set to star in new Fox drama Almost Family this fall and most recently appeared on the third season of HBO’s Big Little Lies (sexy teacher alert!). McRae’s other credits include films Wild, Den Of Thieves and Lee Daniels’s The Butler and TV shows Pitch, Murder in the First and Sons of Anarchy, to name a few.
In addition to her starring role in The Purge, Davis also starred alongside Trevor Jackson in the 2018 film Superfly and in the CBS series Training Day. Davis recently shot a film called Son Of The South, which was executive-produced by Spike Lee and directed by Lee’s longtime editor, Barry Alexander Brown.
Congrats to the happy couple!
