A rally is being planned in Michigan after a man displayed a Ku Klux Klan (KKK) flag in his home window facing his Black neighbor’s house.
According to a Facebook post, the NAACP chapters in Grosse Pointe, MI and Harper Woods, MI will host the “Hate Has No Home Here – Rally in Support of the Dinges Family” on Sunday, February 21, 2021 at 2:00 PM to protest the ordeal.
As soon as Jedonna Dinges saw the flag, she says she called state and federal authorities and posted a picture of the flag to her Facebook page. Local law enforcement then received word of the incident, which prompted officers to go to her neighbor’s house and demand he remove they symbol of racism from the window.
“Detectives who came out from the Grosse Pointe Park Police Department told me that the reason the neighbors put the klan sign up was because I put a camera on my windowsill to record what was happening along the side of my house to protect myself,” Dinges told Fox 2 in Detroit.
Three weeks prior to the ordeal, Dinges said she installed a security camera because someone put a container filled with gasoline in her dumpster. She was hoping to catch the alleged culprit should it happen again. According to reports, her neighbor was unhappy that the camera was facing his house.
Numerous Grosse Pointe Park officials are condemning the KKK flag’s display. “We need to make it clear that that sort of behavior is not welcome in our city,” said Mayor Robert Denner.
“We always say we are against racism, we need to stop racism,” added Councilman Vikas Relan. “We also need to stop people who are supporting this behavior.”
A prosecutor will soon decide whether or not to file charges against the man who displayed the symbol of racism and hate.
