Frankie Beverly and Maze closed the 2019 Essence Festival over the weekend, but before giving fans an incredible performance, Beverly was honored by ESSENCE and New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell.
Cantrell presented Beverly with a key to the city, which he thanked the mayor for before joking, “I don’t want to get to cryin’. But I want to get to my music right now, okay?”
Essence‘s co-founder Ed Lewis and Essence Communications president Michelle Ebanks, also honored the singer with a video salute and an award.
Frankie Beverly and Maze performed five of their hit songs to close out the festival, including “Joy and Pain,” “Back In Stride Again,” and “Before I Let Go.”
Needless to say, the 25th anniversary of Essence Festival ended on a high note.
