She might be a viral star and “All Blue,” but singer-songwriter Jade Novah knows that life has so much more to offer her, and she’s out to grab what’s hers.
The sultry songstress hit the stage Friday at this year’s Essence Festival to talk all things life, love and music with ESSENCE Assistant Entertainment Editor Sydney Scott.
A former backup singer for Rihanna, Jade Novah credits her ability to juggle her various talents, which includes being a morning radio host in Atlanta, to her husband and family. The singer said they provide help, even when she doesn’t realize she needs it.
That help has allowed her to really shine and even get recognized this year for an NAACP Image Award as Best New Artist, and honor that makes her really proud.
“To be recognized for your art, especially as an independent artist, it just reaffirmed that I was on the right path,” she said Friday.
Novah also talked about her plans for the future and where she sees her life and career going over the next few years. The singer used the moment to claim the destiny that she knows is already hers.
“I want a variety show—something that’s like Oprah [Winfrey] meets Beyoncé. I’m claiming it right here and now at Essence,” she boasted.
Essence Festival continues through Sunday.
