• On February 5th, Oprah Winfrey will receive the Montecito Award from the Santa Barbara International Film Festival for her performance in Lee Daniel’s The Butler. The ceremony is part of Santa Barbara’s annual festival honoring films and actors, which is expected to run from January 30th through February 9th. Winfrey is no stranger to acting accolades. Twenty-eight years ago she received a best supporting actress Oscar nomination for her role as Sophia in The Color Purple. The Montecito award often goes to a “performer who has given a series of classic and standout performances throughout his/her career.” [Hollywood Reporter]
• Ciara and her fiancé, Future, are nailing down wedding details one item at a time. Ciara told E! News at the CFDA Fashion Fund Awards this week that they’ve agreed on a date. She now says she’ll start shopping for a dress and more. She revealed last week that she’ll probably be a bridezilla, but a nice one! [E! Online]
• Spike Lee is the target of a lawsuit filed by an elderly couple, who live at the address Lee mistakenly retweeted thinking it was the home of George Zimmerman. The Smoking Gun reports that the couple seeks $15,000 in damages because they allegedly continued to receive threats throughout Zimmerman’s trial in 2013. This is the second time they have filed suit against Lee. The couple previously settled with the director in 2012 after he initially began tweeting their address. [The Smoking Gun]
• The highly anticipated Independence Day sequel has been pushed back a year. It was originally set to be released on July 3, 2014. Now it will hit theaters on July 1, 2015—marking the 20th anniversary of the original film’s release date.
