It’s time once again for Harlem Eat Up!’s annual Luminous Award Dinner, a special night that shines the spotlight on local visionaries and leaders in arts, culture and the culinary world.
The awards are part of the weeklong Harlem Eat Up! Festival, which celebrates food, culture and art throughout Harlem and aims to unite the community, and the brainchild of award-winning restaurateur, chef and author Marcus Samuelsson.
In its fourth year, the Luminary Award Dinner will honor two of Harlem’s brightest stars—pioneering fashion designer Dapper Dan, who dominated headlines with the recent launch of his Harlem-based atelier with Gucci, and TV host and media personality Bevy Smith, who is one of the most prominent entrepreneurs in the community.
Co-founder Samuelsson will host the festivities which will take place this evening in Harlem at his restaurant, Ginny’s Supper Club. and Hosted by Harlem EatUp! co-founder and Red Rooster Executive Chef Marcus Samuelsson
Harlem Eat Up!’s mission has always been to support the community it calls home. To show it’s dedication, the festival’s net proceeds will be donated to local non-profits that empower and uplift Harlem residents.
The Luminary Awards are only part of the fun planned each year during the festival, New Yorkers can take part in many other ways: you can buy tickets to the nightly Dine In series dinner parties that feature culinary collaborations from some of the Harlem’s most prominent chefs or take part in The Harlem Stroll in Morningside Park sampling foods from local restaurants and vendors. Throughout the weekend there will also be live events, cooking demos and panels featuring national chefs.
