It was an eventful evening, to say the least, at the BET Hip-Hop Awards last night where a fight reportedly broke out between Def Jam artists Rick Ross and Young Jeezy.
The confrontation was brought to light when radio personality Funkmaster Flex tweeted about the brawl which allegedly escalated from a verbal disagreement to gunshots fired.
“Jeezy and Rick Ross just had words backstage!! Pushing and shoving!!” Flex tweeted. He went on to write, “Beef just spread to the parking lot!!!” At this point, it’s unclear what happened next, but Flex wrote, “Shots fired in parking lot!!! Gunman arrested!!! Back to the show and Club later!!!”
This morning, the Atlanta Police Department denied that shots were fired and said no arrests were made at the show. “Atlanta Police Department officers on scene responded to break up the fight and used OC spray in the process. Individuals fled the scene. There were no arrests or reports of serious injuries. Reports of shots fired appear to be untrue,” a spokesperson told TMZ.
In light of the scuffle, the awards show was reportedly put on pause but resumed taping shortly thereafter. Ross is said to have made an appearance onstage to perform “Hold Me Back” and “Ice Cold” after the fight was broken up.
Reps for Rick Ross and Young Jeezy have not commented on the incident, but BET was quick to issue a statement shortly after news of the scuffle broke.
“BET Networks works very hard to bring the best in entertainment to the city of Atlanta. For the past 7 years BET has celebrated the true art form of Hip Hop. Due to some misjudgment of select attendees, it is unfortunate that certain incidents took place. BET Networks does not condone any type of violence. Local authorities are working to resolve the situation as quickly as possible,” said BET in a statement.
