Good Morning America host Robin Roberts has publicly acknowledged her relationship with long time girlfriend Amber Laign.
In a Facebook note posted last night, Roberts reflected on the past year and thanked everyone who helped her get through “a critical milestone of 100 days post transplant,” she wrote.
“I am grateful to my sister, Sally-Ann, for being my donor and giving me the gift of life. I am grateful for my entire family, my long time girlfriend, Amber, and friends as we prepare to celebrate a glorious new year together.”
According to PEOPLE, Laign is a licensed massage therapist from the San Francisco Bay area. She has a private practice specializing in recovering patients after injuries.
The pair met through mutual friends and have been together for 10 years.
Hip hop mogul Russell Simmons was among the celebrities to congratulate Roberts. “Sending good thoughts to Robin Roberts. #LoveIsLove,” he tweeted. In a statement to E! News, ABC News Senior Vice President Jeffrey Schneider said, “Love Robin and Amber, and have known Amber for a long time. We were all touched by Robin’s FB message today, so glad she has so much incredible support in her life.”
In 2007 Roberts revealed her breast cancer diagnosis. Later, she went into remission but was then diagnosed with a rare blood disorder, and had to receive a bone marrow transplant in which her sister, Sally-Ann served as her donor.
Roberts returned to daytime television this year to many well-wishes and encouragement. She is said to have recently signed a long-term contract with ABC.
