The Critics’ Choice Awards announced the 2016 nominations this morning.
The Wiz Live! brought in five nominations for the NBC adaption of the classic play and movie, reports Vulture.
Newcomer Shanice Williams received a nod for Best Actress in a Movie Made for Television or Limited Series.
Uzo Aduba, Viola Davis, and Idris Elba Earn SAG Award Nominations
Mary J. Blige scored a nomination after portraying Evillene the Wicked Witch of the West and is up for Best Supporting Actress in a Movie Made for Television or Limited Series.
Tony Award-winner, David Alan Grier received a nomination for Best Supporting Actor in a in a Movie Made for Television or Limited Series. Ne-Yo will compete with Grier in the same category for his role as the Tin-Man.
The entire cast, including Stephanie Mills, Queen Latifah, Uzo Aduba, Amber Riley and Elijah Kelly, could take home awards as the production earned a nomination for Best Movie Made for Television or Limited Series.
Here are some of the highlights of nominations:
- Nominees for Best Lead Actress in A Drama Series are Viola Davis (How to Get Away with Murder) and Taraji P. Henson (Empire).
- Black-ish stars Anthony Anderson, Tracee Ellis Ross and Jenifer Lewis received nominations for Best Actor, Best Actress and Best Guest Star/Actress in a Comedy Series, respectively. The show is also up for Best Comedy Series.
- Empire received a nomination for Best Drama Series.
- Straight Outta Compton scored a nod for Best Acting Ensemble.
- Idris Elba received a Best Actor in a movie made for Television or Limited Series for his work in the BBC series. Luther.
- Getting On‘s Niecy Nash is nominated for Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series.
