The 66th annual Emmy Awards nominees have been announced and Kerry Washington, Idris Elba and Chiwetel Ejiofor are among the impressive pack.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, Netflix original series Orange is the New Black is at the top of the list with 12 nominations including outstanding comedy series. OITNB favorites Uzo Aduba and Laverne Cox are both up for outstanding guest actress in a comedy series.
Scandal star Kerry Washington has received a nod for lead actress in a drama and Cicely Tyson has been nominated for lead actress in a miniseries or movie for her role in Lifetime film, A Trip to Bountiful. Angela Bassett is also in the running for an Emmy for her mesmerizing role in American Horror Story: Coven.
The gentlemen also fared well in nominations; Chiwetel Ejiofor picked up a nod for lead actor in a miniseries or movie for his work on BBC Two series Dancing On The Edge, with Idris Elba gaining recognition in the same category for Luther. House of Lies star Don Cheadle nabbed a nomination for lead actor in a comedy while Brooklyn Nine-Nine star Andre Braugher received a nod for supporting actor in a comedy series. Joe Morton, affectionately known as “Papa Pope” on Scandal received a nomination for outstanding supporting actor in a drama series while Reg E. Cathey was recognized in the same category for House of Cards.
UK TV show Luther, starring Idris Elba, and New Orleans-based HBO series Treme, starring Wendell Pierce, picked up nominations for outstanding miniseries. Lifetime movie A Trip to Bountiful starring Cicely Tyson, Vanessa Williams and Keke Palmer also picked up a nod for outstanding television movie.
Key & Peele scored a nomination for Writing in a Variety series, Wynton Marsalis- A YoungArts Masterclass got a nod for Outstanding Children’s Program and Whoopi Goldberg Presents Moms Mabley was nominated in the outstanding documentary or nonfiction special category.
Fans will be able to see who of their favorite stars win an Emmy when the 2014 ceremony airs live on NBC August 25.
