Orange is the New Black star Uzo Abuda took home an Emmy for Outstanding guest actress in a comedy Saturday at the Creative Arts Emmys.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, the 33-year-old actress gives the Netflix series its first acting honor at the Emmys.
“I don’t know how to say how incredibly impressed I am to be a part of this show day in and day out,” said Aduba after receiving the honor from presenter Morgan Freeman.
Backstage the actress found her self on the verge of tears as she reflected on the night, “I feel so full, that’s why the tears come out. I’m stuffed. My cup runneth over right now. Mission accomplished, thank you,” she said.
Joe Morton also took home his first Emmy at Saturday’s ceremony. The man affectionately known as “Papa Pope” was recognized as outstanding guest actor for his work as Rowan Pope on Scandal.
“It’s an incredible feeling to have been in the business this long–this is the first time I’ve been up for one of these things–and given who I was quote unquote up against, it’s terrific,” said Morton. “My head is in the clouds somewhere, and my feet are trying to touch the ground.”
Morton is likely to return to season four of Scandal as Olivia Pope’s father. Orange is the New Black is also nominated for best comedy during the live telecast of the Emmys August 25 in Los Angeles.
