Anyone who saw 2011’s sleeper hit “The Help” knows that Octavia Spencer put on a phenomenal performance as Minny Jackson.
There’s no surprise that the Alabama native took home tonight’s Best Supporting Actress honors at the Golden Globes, beating out Berenice Bejo (“The Artist”), Janet McTeer (“Albert Nobbs”), Shailene Woodley (“The Descendants”), and her “Help” co-star Jessica Chastain.

With regards to her role as a domestic worker in the movie, Spencer quoted Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., saying, “All labor that uplifts humanity has dignity and importance.”
On Thursday, Spencer and her “Help” co-star Viola Davis took home Best Supporting Actress and Best Actress, respectively, at the Critics Choice Movie Awards. PHOTOS: VH1 Divas Celebrate Soul Event
Most recently, Davis and Spencer won Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress awards from the African-American Film Critics Association, and were also nominated for Screen Actors Guild awards in the same categories. In total, “The Help” earned four SAG nominations.
Up next for Spencer and the rest of “The Help” cast is the SAG awards, which take place on January 29.
