Taraji P. Henson knows how to party. So when you present her with a Golden Globe and invite her into Hollywood’s biggest post-Globes bash, the results are 100 percent worthy of any Empire episode. So how did the fictional matriarch kick off her celebratory evening? “Trap music!” she told us.
Taraji P. Henson on Winning Golden Globe for ‘Empire’: I’ve Waited 20 Years for This
Expectedly spot-on dance moves aside, the 45-year-old actress was so excited to win her first Globe for Best Actress in a TV Series, Drama she immediately began passing out cookies to nearby show attendees. “I am so proud. Are you kidding me? This means I’m international baby,” she told InStyle inside the fete, where she arrived in a stunning Stella McCartney design (above). “I always ask God to please let me cross cultures and color. I never wanted to be known as an African-American actress or an American Actress. So when you say Hollywood Foreign Press to me, that means that my talent, my gift, my craft has reached beyond the borders of where I was born. And that means more to me than any trophy.”
For Henson, who simply carried lip-gloss, oil soakers, rice paper, and lip-gloss inside her clutch, the new trophy will soon find its perfect place to shine. “I’m buying a new house!” she told us. It wasn’t all about the trophy for the talent, however, considering she was also eager to dish advice for women hoping to make it to Hollywood. “Find your passion,” she says. “Believe in yourself and believe in something higher than you. Stay in your lane, and don’t compare yourself to other people.”
