Ella Mai is nominated for — not one — but two Grammy Awards for the first time ever thanks to her hit “Boo’d Up.”
The British singer could take home two golden trophies Sunday in the Song Of The Year and Best R&B Song categories.
“It means everything honestly,” Mai told ESSENCE Saturday night at the 2019 Pre-Grammy Gala inside the Beverly Hilton Hotel. “I’ve just dreamed about this moment since I was a little girl.”
And if she’d win — “I’m all about speaking it into existence,” Mai admitted — she’d have a few people to thank for holding her down.
“Definitely God, of course, just for making all of this happen, waking me up and being able to share my gift,” she began. “My mom, my brother, my grandparents, my amazing team…everyone around me who’s made this happen for me really.”
Fingers crossed!
