With a fresh undercut tucked under her signature bob, Taraji is adding a little edge to all of the red carpets she’s hitting this season. But upkeep for a cool cut isn’t always easy…unless of course, you have a glam squad on your side.
We asked Taraji’s “mane” man, Tymothe Wallace, how to keep it in all in order.
WASH WISELY
Co-washing has become a default for many of us, but Tymothe says that it really depends on your hair type. If you have fine hair, co-washing is ideal. If you have medium to thick hair, alternate between co-washing and your regular cleansing regimen.

“During the winter months, it’s especially important that you use a hair care solution to address any dryness or flakes, such as Dove DermaCare Scalp Dryness & Itch Relief Shampoo and Conditioner, that’s flake-fighting and relieves an itchy scalp, while it moisturizes.
KEEP THE CUT CLOSE
If you have an undercut, “try to keep it really low so it doesn’t grow out. Get a shape up every other week, depending on how fast your hair grows,” says Tymothe. He also recommends using a pomade or edge control to maintain a sleek and clean look.
GET GRAMMYS GLAM
For Taraji’s Grammys look, “although it was a simple bob, we added flair with an intricate design of hairpins, helping the look really come together,” says Tymothe.
“Taraji respects everyone’s art. Ashunta Sheriff (makeup), Jason Bolden (wardrobe) and myself work together to create an effortless and chic look.”
PREP FOR THE AFTER-PARTY
If you’re planning an all-nighter or close to it, stash a good serum in your clutch. “It saves the day making hair shiny and frizz-free throughout the night.”
KEEP STRANDS SLEEK WHILE YOU SWEAT
If you’re active like Taraji, try an anti-humidity product to keep your hair tight while you get tight. Dove Absolute Curls Supreme Crème Serum ($6) is a good option. Tymothe also recommends styling your hair in ponytails, long and short or protective styles such as braids, wigs and hair extensions
“The key is to always make sure to condition your hair and keep it very moisturized to prevent breakage.”
JUST ADD WATER
Winter can be so disrespectful to our strands. To combat dryness during the winter months, “I recommend using a shampoo and conditioner system for the hair that promotes scalp health, such as Dove DermaCare Scalp Dryness & Itch Relief Shampoo and Conditioner. Additionally, hydration starts from within—drink more water to keep the body and hair hydrated.
