- The nominations are in! Rihanna is nominated for five MTV Video Music Awards. She has two chances to win the all-important Video of the Year trophy: Her very own video, “We Found Love,” is nominated, along with Drake’s “Take Care,” in which she’s featured. The 2012 VMAs are set for September 6 at 8 p.m. in Los Angeles. Alicia Keys is the first act confirmed to perform. [MTV]
- True Blood actor Nelsan Ellis, best known for his role as Lafayette Reynolds, will play Martin Luther King Jr. in Lee Daniels’ new film The Butler. Last week, it was announced that Mariah Carey was cast in the film, which also stars Forest Whitaker and Oprah Winfrey. [Bossip]
- Is super producer Pharrell Williams in talks to join American Idol? According to Us Weekly, Williams is close to closing a deal. “Everything is looking good, but they’re still working out details,” says the popular magazine. [Madame Noire]
- Matt Barnes is currently sitting behind bars. The former LA Laker was arrested last night for an outstanding traffic warrant, resisting arrest and threatening an officer. He’s being held on $51K bail — $26K for his outstanding warrant and $25K for the felony. [TMZ]
- Beyoncé and Jay-Z will be living large this August. The power couple are reportedly renting a Hamptons home for the month. The palatial home is 31,000 square feet and includes a pool, a spa, tennis courts, a bowling alley, a media room and more. The Knowles-Carters are said to be paying nearly $400K to rent out the home.
