The nominations for the 47th NAACP Image Awards are in.
Concussion, Creed, Dope, Beasts of No Nation, and Straight Outta Compton are up for Outstanding Motion Picture while Misty Copeland, Viola Davis, Shonda Rhimes, Michael B. Jordan, and Pharrell Williams vie for Entertainer of the Year.
Black-ish, House of Lies, Survivor’s Remorse, Key & Peele, and Orange is the New Black are up for Outstanding Television Comedy Series. Being Mary Jane, Empire, How to Get Away with Murder, Power, and Scandal are all up for Outstanding Drama Series.
African-American Film Critics Association Declares ‘Straight Outta Compton’ Best Film of 2015
Actors Cuba Gooding, Jr., David Alan Grier, David Oyelowo, Idris Elba, and Michael Kenneth Williams all scored nominations for Outstanding Actor in Television Movie, Mini-Series, or Dramatic Special. Leading Ladies, Gabrielle Union, Kerry Washington, Nicole Beharie, Taraji P. Henson, and Viola Davis received noms for Outstanding Actress in a Drama Series.
Musically, Judith Hill, Andra Day, Jussie Smollett, The Weeknd, and Yazz are up for Outstanding New Artist. Outstanding Female Artist honors can go to Janet Jackson, Jazmine Sullivan, Jill Scott, Lalah Hathaway, or Lauryn Hill. Outstanding Music Video nominees include “Can’t Feel My Face” by The Weeknd, Pharrell Williams’ “Freedom,” “No Sleep” from Janet Jackson feat. J. Cole, Tyrese’s R&B hit “Shame,” and Alabama Shakes bluesy rock song, “Sound & Color.”
