Although 2012 just began, Viola Davis is having the best year ever. The classically-trained actress is Hollywood’s current “It” girl and projected front-runner for this year’s Academy Awards.
Last night, Davis was honored by the African American Film Critics Association for her portrayal of Aibileen Clark — a Black maid who forms a friendship with a White writer — in “The Help.” Davis’ dynamic performance has already earned her Golden Globe and SAG Award Best Actress nominations, and many feel she’s a lock for her second Oscar nod — she was nominated for Best Supporting Actress in 2009 for her role in “Doubt.”

So what will Davis be doing when Oscar nominations are announced the morning of January 24th?
“We’ll probably be at the Four Seasons Hotel the night before,” her husband Julius Tennon tells ESSENCE.com. Davis adds that they’ll be relaxing at the hotel “drinking champagne at 5am and eating some apple-smoked bacon.”

The bubbly actress is also a new mom, having adopted daughter Genesis in October. She credits prayer and “good help” with helping her balance it all. She even had a few words for Beyonce, who gave birth to daughter Blue Ivy Carter this weekend.
“You have to give up perfection and embrace the day-to-day joys, and know that there’s no way to even do it beautifully,” Davis says. “The beauty of it is God’s grace that you had this child and just love her.”
