Last night Lupita Nyong’o won the Screen Actor’s Guild Award for Supporting Actress in the movie 12 Years A Slave, beating out some of the biggest names in Hollywood like Jennifer Lawrence in American Hustle, Julia Roberts in August: Osage County and Oprah Winfrey for her role in The Butler. Nyong’o played the riveting role of Patsey, an abused yet favored slave in the Steve McQueen film, one of the most talked about this red carpet season.
This adds to the fresh list of wins 12 Year’s A Slave took home at the Golden Globes and Critics Choice Awards this red carpet season so far.
Nyong’o graciously thanked her fellow actors, stating her recognition was “an honor of the highest order.” The actress also acknowledged Solomon Northup, whom the film was inspired by, “Thank you so much for a life well lived and a story hard to tell but told so well,” she added.
Congratulations on a well-deserved win, Lupita!
