Why We’re Still Obsessed with Danielle Brooks' SAG Awards Makeup
There’s one thing Danielle Brooks knows for sure: shutting down the red carpet at the Screen Actors Guild Awards in a custom-made Christian Siriano wouldn’t be complete without bombshell makeup.
There’s one thing Danielle Brooks knows for sure: shutting down the red carpet at the Screen Actors Guild Awards in a custom-made Christian Siriano wouldn’t be complete without bombshell makeup.
“The moment that I saw Danielle’s dress, I knew that we were headed for magical moment on the SAG Awards red carpet,” says celebrity makeup artist Jessica Smalls who created the look for the Orange is The New Black actress. “Since the dress was the main attraction, I knew that I didn’t want the makeup to compete, but at the same time I still wanted it to speak. So I decided that would give her beautiful glowing skin, subtle sparkling eyes and a juicy berry lip.”
Smalls made sure Brooks skin looked luminous by hydrating her skin with Charlotte Tilbury’s Magic Cream and applying Smashbox Photo Finish foundation primer, to insure a flawless base.

Using MAC Cosmetics Studio Fix Fluid in NW48, Smalls evened out Danielle’s complexion and brightened under her eyes with MAC Select Cover Up concealer in NC50. Once her skin was perfected, Smalls used a clean mascara wand to brush her brows into place, and then she used Anastasia Beverly Hill Brow Wiz pencil in Brunette to sparingly fill in her brows.
Using the remaining concealer from the Beauty Blender, Smalls cancelled out the natural color of Brooks’ eyelids and applied Chanel’s Illusion D’Ombre eyeshadow in Illusoire to her lids, rimmed her waterline with a soft black eyeliner, and applied House of Lashes Pixie Luxe lashes. Finally she gave two coats of Mary Kay Lash Love Mascara to her top and bottom lashes.
To bring her face to life, Smalls gave her face dimension by contouring her cheeks, temples and jawline, with Covergirl Queen Collection Bronzer in Ebony Bronzer and highlighted above her cheekbone and down the middle of her nose with Black Radiance’s Baked Bronzer in Gingersnap.
For the perfect pop of color on her lips, Smalls lined her lips with MAC’s Current lip pencil, applied Lime Crime’s Velvetine lipstick in Utopia and finished her lips off with Covergirl’s Colorlicious lip gloss in Plumlicious.
