Back in May 2009 with all of America watching, “The View” cohost Sherri Shepherd vowed on the show to be in a swimsuit by the end of summer. The actress and comedian stayed dedicated to achieving a healthier size without a crazy diet by cutting back and exercise. See her transformation.
Even in Sherri’s heavier days, she embraced herself and flaunted her voluptuous shape in bold colors.
Sherri shines at the premiere of “Beauty Shop” in 2005, where she starred as a pregnant beautician and welcomed her own son that year.
Now 42, Sherri watched her mother die from diabetic complications when her mom was 41, and now has regulated her own diabetes through exercise.
“Diabetes is the silent killer of our community because the symptoms aren’t always as strong. I couldn’t feel my big toe, and we don’t pay attention until it’s too late,” she says.
To slim down, Sherri found things she enjoyed to do like playing tennis and dancing with her son.
Sherri was excited for millions of women around the country to join her in a weight loss challenge.
Sherri’s fellow “View” hosts Elizabeth Hasselbeck, Whoopi Goldberg, Barbara Walters and Joy Behar were supportive throughout her weight loss journey.
Throughout Sherri’s summer slim-down, she leaned on the support of women around the country and her own friends who came out to witness her swimsuit debut.
During Sherri’s trip to Los Angeles, along with catching the premiere of “Imagine that” in early June, her fans on Twitter called her out for taking a break from her diet.
“There were days I cheated, and I didn’t beat myself up. I just got back on track,” she says.
On August 6, 2009, with her girlfriends rooting her on, Sherri strutted her stuff in a bathing suit on “The View.”
“We have to be healthy because we have children and a legacy to leave. That was really my goal, not the bathing suit,” she says.
Sherri is excited to begin a healthier life and has one request to celebrate—a sex scene with costar Malcolm Jamal Warner on her new sitcom, “Sherri.”
