If you think that it’s easy to achieve Jorja Smith’s flawless and simple beat from the Made In America festival, think again. The same way the simplest sleek bob takes a lot of maneuvering to stay perfect, the most subtle less-is-more beauty look takes work. It’s all about the intricate details and several small steps to get an overall look.
Makeup artist Carol Lopez Reid knows all too well, as she counted more than a dozen Dior beauty products across skincare, eyes, and lips as part of her arsenal to achieve the “Be Honest” singer’s look.
“Jorja’s been loving a smoky lash line so we created a soft eye look and teamed it with a fresh summer lip that was long lasting for stage but felt super comfortable while she’s singing,” said makeup artist Lopez Reid, who’s been working with the singer since 2015.
Recently named an ambassador for the brand, Smith was a sight to see in her peachy-colored dress and Dior-perfected face to match. With already healthy skin, her routine included products that would give her a natural radiant glow, and a little bit of allure around the eyes. Lopez Reid broke it down for us, not to brag on how skilled she is at making the star’s beauty look so effortless, but so that we can achieve her healthy glow (or at the very least try) at home.
To get Jorja’s complexion: First she exfoliated her skin with Dior Hydra Life Time To Glow Ultra Fine Exfoliating Powder and followed it up with Capture Youth Glow Booster Age-Delay Illuminating Serum and Hydra Life Fresh Hydration Sorbet Crème.
Then she prepped the skin with primer, and created a base while adding Dior Forever Undercover Concealer to areas that she thought needed extra coverage. She used Dior Mineral Nude Bronze to give her a glow, and contoured with Dior Backstage Contour Palette. Highlighter and blush rounded out the face to give Jorja that flawless look without a dull complexion.
To get Jorja’s eyes: Lopez Reid used the Dior Backstage Eye Palette in Cool Neutrals. She primed lids first, then applied matte shades, layered shimmery shades, and then finished with a matte plum along the lash line for a smoky effect. She also used a mix of metallics from the Backstage Glow Face Palette in Universal for the inner corners, then finished the look with black HD mascara and Diorshow Khôl liner before filling in brows.
Remember, makeup artists will always tell you brows are sisters, not twins. They should look really similar but not perfectly the same, so don’t overdo it trying to get them to look identical.
To get Jorja’s lips: She kept it simple, mixing two shades of new Rouge Dior Ultra Care Liquid in Fleur Bleue and Wonder to get a soft pink. They had to stay put without drying out lips for the day-long event.
It’s a great look for every day wear, not just for performing at sold out festivals. This entire look can also be done without the smoky eye if you’re just looking for that fresh face with a glow. You can also add a pop of color in red or berry on the lips to accentuate that feature against your soft glow.
