The year was 1994. ESSENCE laid the groundwork for Essence Festival, MAC Cosmetics launched their Viva Glam Campaign, and singer Mary J. Blige released her iconic My Life album. This summer, the 48-year-old will celebrate the 25th Anniversary of each of these milestones in a major way. Not only will she headline Essence Festival in its silver year next month, but she’s also set to debut her new lipstick with MAC Cosmetics. On June 23, the French Silk lipstick, which gives off a nude hue, will retail on the brand’s website for $19.
Blige’s flesh-toned lipstick is just one of twenty-four shades from MAC’s new Love Me collection, and it’s the type of nude everyone can wear with the confidence the artist has been exuding so much of lately.
“The campaign is all about me loving me and finding that in myself,” Mary J. Blige said in a statement. “When they introduced this concept to me it was like a no-brainer because that’s where I am in my life. I am being a little selfish these days, loving me and taking care of me.”
Being in love with yourself is a comfortable place to be. For the entertainer, nude lips are her comfort zone.
“I do colors sometimes, but Nude is the thing for me,” she said in an interview. “You don’t feel like you’re doing too much. You just feel comfortable. French Silk is a nude that you have to have some kind of confidence to wear.”
We’re all here for being true to yourself and this pretty pigment will compliment the skin you’re in.
