If you haven’t already heard, Lizzo dropped a huge nugget on fans over the weekend that she scored her first makeup campaign. The “Cuz I Love You” singer is part of Urban Decay’s “Pretty Different” campaign alongside CL, Joey King, and Karol G. She’s pretty, she’s different, and she’s pretty different so it’s a seamless collaboration in our minds.
“To embody the vision that beauty is not about standards, Urban Decay has partnered with five individuals who are Pretty Different. They are unique, they are powerful, they are inspiring, they push boundaries,” the brand posted on their IG page where they released the campaign video.
With the high that she’s been riding coming off of a successful album drop, an epic performance at the 2019 BET Awards, and slaying red carpets from here to Timbuktu, a cosmetics collaboration with a cult brand rounds off the list nicely. In the video, the phrase “pretty bold” flashes across the screen as the lens zeroes in on Lizzo’s bold colorful glittery eye makeup. It’s a celebration of diversity in beauty, and a nod to those who don’t subscribe to antiquated ideas of what is beautiful.
And with the hair and makeup lewks that she’s been serving, we can think of at least a handful of other brands that Lizzo would be perfect to rep for, that we’d love to see her work with. From our pens to the campaigns’ pages.
Lizzo’s gorgeous natural tresses are dynamite and they were explosive at her ESSENCE cover shoot, and at various appearances where she opted to don her curls. We know she’s all about lending her image to positive campaigns that promote embracing oneself, and this could be a healthy marriage of that message with natural hair.
Lizzo’s beautiful flawless skin is #beautygoals every time she hits a red carpet or stage. We could see it now, Lizzo x Urban Skin Rx on a slew of cleansers, serums, and moisturizers that will give you that same juice.
We all know that the twerking singer loves a great pony that she can swing too. Indique offers amazing quality virgin hair when you want a little something extra, and a Lizzo ponytail line could be the perfect addition to their celebrity roster that already includes the legendary Chaka Khan. She’ll be in good hair company.
Both trailblazers, both challengers of Eurocentric beauty ideals, both twerkers and unabashedly go-getters, a Lizzo and Rihanna collaboration might be too much for the world to handle, and exactly what it needs. Her amazing skin lends itself to a flawless beat. Who better to introduce a new product by the cosmetics giant than this musical behemoth?
This may not be a beauty brand, but RuPaul’s Drag Race has a huge focus on makeup and hair for its runway. More importantly, the show is all about realizing the charisma, uniqueness, nerve, and talent of the queens who dare to make the the cut for the competition—this is exactly Lizzo’s lane. She’s been a judge on the show, and her “Juice” video stars several of the show’s contestants. There’s already a connection there. But we’re greedy, more please.
