With new makeup trends popping up everyday, it can be tough to stay on top of it all. Between strobing, contouring, reverse smoky eyeliner and ombre lips even we have a hard time staying on top of it all. Lucky for us, there are a few tried-and-true beauty rules you should actually live by that will make all of the trend trips and tricks null and void. We took a few tips from top makeup artists in the industry to find out their favorite beauty hacks and six must-know tips that will make your morning makeup routine a whole lot easier.
Master The No-Makeup Makeup Look.
Jerry Johnson, Global Makeup Artists for Laura Merceir recommends spot treating over following the traditional reverse-triangle concealer method. “The trick to nailing the no-makeup makeup look is using concealer only where you need it. If you don’t have dark circles under your eyes, you don’t spend time in the morning color correcting and layering concealer over your eye area. I only use concealer where it’s needed,” Johnson suggests.
Be Mindful of Blush Placement
There are multiple suggestions for how to apply blush properly, but if you’re ever unsure of where your blush should stop and start, place your index and middle finger on and angle next to your corner of your mouth, so your index finger is cater-corner to your cheekbone. According to a Nars pro artist, “As a rule of thumb, your blush should not fall below the placement of your index and middle fingers.” For the perfect flush, swirl your brush in the blush pot and tap off any excess; apply the blush to your cheeks using swift upward strokes from the apples of your cheeks and along your cheekbone.
Concealer Application for Evening
To brighten tired eyes and give your makeup look a little bit of a glow, “apply your concealer in the form of a Nike swoosh,” states Marc Jacobs Beauty makeup artist, Gina Torres. Warm the concealer first by applying it to the back of your hand. Using a dene brush, apply the concealer below your eye in the shape of a curved check mark, using less product towards the outer corner of your eyes. Blend the concealer using a fluffy brush to press the pigment into the skin to prevent creasing; switch to a smaller brush to blend the concealer into the inner corners of your eyes. Set with a translucent powder.
Try Using Your Fingers To Apply Foundation
Whether you’re using a tinted moisturizer or a full-fledged foundation, start with a primer (and clean hand) to apply your base to prevent streaking, “body heat from your hands will also warm the foundation allowing it to ‘melt’ into your skin seamlessly,” states Jerry Johnson Global Makeup artists for Laura Mercier.
Use an Illuminating Primer or SPF to Intensify Your Glow
For the beauty minimalist, glowing skin is always a priority. Johnson recommends using an illuminating primer to give your skin a natural radiance. If you’re applying a full face, top-off the high plains of your cheeks with an illuminating primer by pressing the pigments into your skin using your finger tips.
