YouTube beauty vloggers have a knack for re-purposing random things as beauty tools — like stilettos, tape, protractors. You name it, a vlogger can find a way to incorporate it into their beauty routine.
Lately, however, there’s been a boom in beauty girls looking to supplement their finishing powder with cheaper products that yield the same results. Think: cornstarch and milk of magnesia. The latest oil-blocking agent to joint the kitchen (or bathroom) beauty squad is baby powder. London based beauty blogger, Chanel Boateng, recently uploaded a video using the toddler-essential powder to set her base and highlighter. And, while the results are pretty amazing, you may want to re-think making baby powder you go-to.
Talcum powders—like baby powder—have been a hot topic in beauty news recently, as allegations of it causing cancer have surfaced. So, while there are some benefits in using baby powder as a setting powder such as reduced oil production and reduced breakouts, it may not be the best solution for long term use.
