Finding the perfect nude lipstick can be such a hassle. Is it based off the color of your skin? Well, sometimes that can make you look washed out or like a zombie on Halloween.
Should it match the color of your lips? Well, if your lips are like mine, that would equate some version of a peony pink, which definitely isn’t nude.
So, where in the world do we find it?! What better place to start than Beautycon?
We caught up with Brooklyn-born it girl, Justine Skye, at the New York edition of the annual convention, where we couldn’t stop staring at her glossy pout. What is the shade that doesn’t wash out her beautiful brown skin?
She tells ESSENCE it’s M.A.C. Cremesheen Glass in King Pin ($21, nordstrom.com), a chocolately, creamy gloss with major shine that she can’t stop wearing. It’s the perfect match for anyone with a mocha skin tone.
The singer also opts for gloss over lipstick because it keeps her pout moisturized throughout the day. That’s a good tip to remember as we try everything in our power to stay far, far away from chapped lips in the colder months.
And according to makeup artist Frank Guyton, you can also utilize an old backstage Fashion Week trick to discover a fall-friendly nude lippie.
“We are no strangers to covering lips with foundation first,” he tells ESSENCE. “For someone that has a lighter complexion, try putting your foundation color on your lips first to block out your natural lip color and cover with a pencil 2-3 shades warmer than your skin and top with a gloss.”
Now go forth and slay!
