Yesterday (December 5), while most of us were leading relatively normal lives, the fashion glitterati gathered in London for the 2016 Fashion Awards, also known as the “Oscars of fashion.”
The usual suspects dressed up and stepped out for the prestigious occasion, including a slew of brown beauties who stole the spotlight in their head to toe looks. The fashion was predictably glamourous, but more than anything, it convinced us to begin yet another search for that perfect winter lip color because, why not?
Merlot lippies are a must and Joan Smalls is a prime example of that. The Afro Latina powerhouse flaunted her slender physique in a matching set, but we’re gagging over her deep red pout.
And she wasn’t the only person to rock the covetable shade. We’ve been crushing on Aluna Francis for years. The singer not only makes the best dance music, but the fashion and beauty choices she makes are equally exciting.
Besides this baroque fishtail braid (obsessed!), the British beauty is sporting a merlot shade like Smalls.
If you’re desperate for a dupe, Kat Von D’s Vampira ($21, sephora.com) is one of our favorites.
The lasting power is unmatched for a matte lipstick and of course, it doesn’t break bank.
To the contrary, model Jourdan Dunn lightened things up with her ensemble.
In addition to her flawless Brandom Maxwell set, the mother of one slayed in a pastel pink gloss that we’re pretty sure would look amazing on any skin tone.
Anastasia Beverly Hills’ Lip Gloss is Pastel Pink ($16, macys.com) is the perfect match-up for those who prefer this more subtle look.
And we certainly can’t overlook Adwoa Aboah, who popped in a coral lipstick.
If you don’t subscribe to the beauty rule that says dark lipsticks are reserved for the winter season, the model appears to be wearing Chanel’s Rouge Velvet Lipstick in La Favorite ($37, nordstrom.com). Click here for a closer look at our definitely fall lip color guide.
