When most of us think of wine colored lipsticks, images of fall pop into our minds, not warm spring or summer days on the beach. But these days you don’t have to wait for hot days to wear vampy, dark lipsticks. In fact, Covergirl Global Creative Director Pat McGrath says the color can be worn year-round.
While backstage at Anna Sui’s Spring/summer 2016 fashion show this week, McGrath gave the models a modern take on the 1940’s burgundy lip. “Makeup is different now, you do what you want and you’re not dictated by seasons,” she says. “Deep reds are always hot. And, if you decide to wear it as a stain, and not a full lipstick, that’s equally as hot.”
Her only rule: Take caution when working with lip liners. Lipstick should be precise, but not too exact. “Lips that are too precise make you look older,” she says. “I love lip liners, but if you’re not careful it can be very aging.”
To get the deep wine lip from Anna Sui (that’s great for all skin tones), Pat layered COVERGIRL Colorlicious Lipstick in Seduce Scarlet mixed with COVERGIRL Queen Collection Lip Color in Fine Wine and COVERGIRL Outlast Longwear + Moisture Lipstick in Amazing Auburn.
