Brides spend countless hours planning their big day down to the most minute detail – even when it comes to selecting the perfect lip shade to wear for the moment she kisses her groom.
What’s a bride to wear for her ceremony to avoid getting lipstick all over her husband-to-be during the big “you may kiss the bride” moment? Or even worse, wind up smeared for the recessional photos?
We turned to the experts to get answers. GlamSquad and The Glam App‘s makeup artists work countless weddings each year around the country, which means they’ve got the data on which lipsticks are surefire hits on the big day. Kelli J. Bartlett, the brand’s Director of Makeup Artistry, polled GlamSquad makeup artists and The Glam App’s top artists revealed the stand-out shades brides swear by for the ceremony.

For brides all across the country, this natural, rosy satin lip shade remains a favorite. “It is the perfect amplified, natural lip color, with a satin texture so it’s comfortable to wear and easy to touch up with,” Bartlett told us.
Another popular pick among East Coast city gals? Bartlett gets a lot of requests for this romantic nude shade from Tom Ford with a pale pink finish and longwear formula.

West coast brides, particularly in L.A., tend to ask their GlamSquads for brownish-nude hues. “This bride uses Instagram as a tool for inspiration,” Bartlett said. “The brown nude lip is having a major comeback and pairs beautifully with a smoky eye – another L.A. staple!”
“Miami brides tend to be more bold and they rock hot corals or even bright reds,” Bartlett said. “This one is a bright, fiery red that is a definite go-to for more daring brides.”
Bartlett says N.Y.C. brides tend to go “clean and classic,” which makes this pale peachy pink stain popular among many. “The color trends vary by market, but the consistent thread across them all is the need for long-lasting coverage,” she said.
While peachy pink nudes are a longstanding trend for Louisville brides, The Glam App’s makeup artist Ronda Byndon says lately, matte dark lips have been popular. “We have seen more brides going with a burgundy [shade] this season. Sin by M.A.C is a great dark burgundy and most requested,” she told us.
Southern brides in Atlanta have been requesting Kylie Jenner’s top-selling matte lip kits for their big day. “A soft pink or blush color lip is trendy for brides in Atlanta,” said The Glam App makeup artist Tayjuana Johnson.
