Kellie Bowman’s obsession with herbal remedies and health was handed down by her father Alfredo Darrington Bowman – known to the world as Dr. Sebi.
The herbalist became famous for claims that he had rid patients of infectious diseases like AIDS, sickle cell anemia and lupus through an alkaline diet. Though his practices were certainly controversial in the medical community, Dr. Sebi is remembered as a wellness pioneer who encouraged Black people to regain control over their health. Kellie, in particular, remembers that her father “got excited about herbs just like some men get excited about football.”
Dr. Sebi’s passion got passed down, as it’s inspired Bowman to launch Sebi’s Daughters. The brand sells natural healing products from supplements and tinctures to personal care products. Everything is made with love and the intent to inspire Black women to prioritize their health. Adopting a healthy lifestyle is a gradual process that can be difficult at first, which is why Bowman suggests adding healthy things (water, fruits and vegetables) as the first step.
Getting healthy is no easy feat, especially if you don’t know where to start. That’s why Bowman has broken it down for us in five steps. Catch her talk about it in the video below:
