The ladies of Litchfield are preparing to say their final farewell. Netflix released Tuesday a first look at the seventh and final season of Orange Is The New Black.
The final season features the women accepting the ways that incarceration has permanently altered them. After several inmates were transferred to the compound’s maximum-security facility, abuse runs rampant in their lives.
One photo from the new season shows the newly strung out Daya (Dascha Polanco) deep in conversation with Taystee (Danielle Brooks). Having already agreed to a plea deal where she accepted a life sentence as punishment for her participation in the riot, Daya has lost all hope. Meanwhile Taystee continues to struggle with the reality of her recent conviction and the disloyalty of her friend turned false witness.
Another photo from the show features Suzanne (Uzo Aduba) managing a wide smile despite her circumstances while hugging someone tightly inside of a cell.
Confronting the prison industrial complex, elitism’s role in the justice system, and the realities of sexual and psychological violence inflicted upon female inmates, Orange broke barriers in the streaming space. It also introduced us to some of our favorite actresses, including Brooks, Aduba, and Polanco.
Part-socially conscious comedy and part-full blown trauma parade, the series displays the humanity of the women behind the walls of American’s bloated prison system.
The seventh and final season of Orange Is The New Black premieres on Netflix on July 26.
