We’ve mentioned previously that actress Angela Bassett had found the fountain of youth. Turns out, she’s actually just found the perfect ingredients to look for in skincare to make sure her skin keeps its youthful, radiant glow. The American Horror Story actress recently teamed up with her longtime doctor and aesthetic specialist Dr. Barbara Sturm to launch a skincare line for women of color called “Darker Skin Tones by Dr. Barbara Sturm.”
Set to launch in July, the line is a sequel to Dr. Sturm’s original skincare collection and will focus on issues commonly faced by Black women like inflammation, unevenness, pore size and hyperpigmentation. The hero ingredient in the line is purslane, a natural ingredient that targets inflammation, which Dr. Sturm identifies as the source of most skin issues for Black women. Bassett has been using products with purslane for years and Dr. Sturm notes that it “works against natural programmed cell death.” Sturm told WWD, “Not only do we [address] anti-inflammation and the evening out of skin tone but also a big thing for anti-aging.”

Dark Skin Tones by Dr. Barbara Sturm launches in July and will be sold exclusively online and in-store at Harrods. With five products in-tow, a foam cleanser, an enzyme cleanser, face cream and accompanying créme, and a hyaluronic serum, Bassett hopes the line will help people learn “what is good for [their skin] and ingredients that are helpful—not invasive or irritating,” she told WWD. The actress and Dr. Sturm also hinted at creating a preventative skincare line for teens in the future to help them establish the building blocks of skincare early on.
