And now, when you spot a mole that may or may not have been there before, there’s an app to help you monitor your skin through photos and by mapping mole zones so that you can show your doctor the growth of the mole over time.
The app is called Mole Mapper and it’s available exclusively through the Apple App Store via their open source software framework, Research Kit.

Though the app is not to be used in place of professional medical advice, it was developed by a PhD cancer biologist and can be used to detect changes and alert users of potential indication of malignancy. Users can either store the photos on their phone or share the data from images and occasional surveys with researchers to help end the war on melanoma.
