Actress Jazmyn Simon is the only female lead on the hit HBO show Ballers and she’s got it going on. She plays Julie, a doctor and the wife of a former pro football linebacker, and her typical beauty regimen is not that different from the role she plays on the show. We sat down with the starlet to get the 411 on how she keeps her skin in check both on and off set and here’s what she had to say!
“It’s very important to get facials,” Simons states candidly. “Facials and sunscreen—people don’t believe that Black people need sunscreen, but sunscreen with save your life.” Judging by the flawless nature of her skin, she’s obviously doing something right. Between flying back and forth across the country and spending hours on set in studio makeup, Simon has a few personal beauty policies that she swears by to keep her skin clear year-round.
1. Always wash your face at night. “I never go to bed with makeup on,” notes Simons. In addition to getting facials on a monthly basis, Simons keeps her pores clear and her skin blemish free by washing her face twice a day with Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser ($6.99, at drugstores), and exfoliating twice a week using her Clarisonic facial brush ($219, at clarisonic.com).
2. Don’t do too much with your makeup. For the most part, she keeps her day-to-day makeup simple. “Skincare is really important to me so I always start with a moisturizer— I’m obsessed with Belief (The True Cream Moisturizing Bomb; $22, at sephora.com) [As for my makeup routine] My makeup artist told me, if you aren’t skilled at doing intricate eye shadow, choose one color and just do a wash over your lid,” Simons told ESSENCE. Lately, she’s been double purposing her blush/bronzers and using them to warm up her face and add a little color to her lids.
3. Spritz your face with a facial essence during flights. “My skin always feels really dry after a long flight, so I love to carry Avène Eau Thermal Spring Water ($18.50, at drugstores) to refresh and hydrate my skin.”
4. Smile. “I was at an event a few weeks ago and the next day I came across an article that read ‘when what you’re wearing doesn’t matter because you rsmile is so bright.’ Smiling makes a huge difference. A lot of people walk the red carpet and try to be sexy, I don’t do that; I always smille,” Simons mentions ironically with a smile on her face. Noted! Smiling is the best makeup.
Ballers just entered their second season. You can catch Jazmyn Simon alongside Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and their fabulous co-stars on Sundays at 10pm EST on HBO.
