Most women indulge in the occasional trip to the spa for a little mani pedi R&R, but I’d argue that spa traffic is seasonal, and summer months are essentially the Olympics of foot care. Women with fabulous sandals rocking chipped polish, and dry, cracking or dusty heels and soles simply don’t make the cut. And while those industrial looking cheese grater that they use on your feet at the nail salon do the trick if your nail tech really puts his back into it, those soft heels only last for a little while and the treatment is targeted while the skin on the rest of your foot may still remain dull. As much as we’d like to believe that an arsenal of foot soaks, heavy creams and petroleum-lined socks will cure us of our foot woes, sometimes we need a little more help.
A few weeks ago, a wave of photos appeared on my timeline of various stages of peeling feet—gross, I know— but they were paired with these awesome testimonials from beauty editors and consumers alike who were praising this mystery product appropriately called, “Baby Foot Exfoliant Foot Peel.” As unnerving as the photos were I had to see the results for myself, so I reached out to Baby Foot and the results of this pedi peel were kind of shocking.
How It Works:
Baby Foot is an Alpha Hydroxy Acid (AHA) peel that exfoliates the skin and breaks down the bonds in dead skin to reveal newer, smoother and softer skin. The AHAs will break down the dead skin over a period of 7 days and the layers skin will peel away from your foot. It’s über-gentle, so while your skin may be peeling off in layers, it’s completely safe.
What To Do:
Your Baby Foot kit will come with two sealed booties filled with AHA solution that you’ll place on your feel and seal with tape (provide din kit.) Wear the booties for 1 hour and then wash the solution off with warm water.
What to Expect:
Nothing right away. Your feet will feel smooth after removing the booties, but they will not begin to peel instantly or even after the first two days. It wasn’t until day three that my feet began to look as though they were chaffing (sorry for the visual). While your feet will look dry and be visually unappealing for 5-7 days after treatment, the new skin underneath is incredibly smooth and even toned.
Final Verdict:
I’m a fan. If you’re preparing for a beach getaway or a big night out, I definitely recommend planning to do a Baby Foot Treatment a week in advance. Once a month or a few times a year, Baby Foot is the perfect solution to maintaining soft heels.
What it Costs and Where to Buy it:
