Starz’s original series Power might be ending with season 6, but its legacy can live on for fans in their beauty routine. The premium network has partnered with the Black-owned cosmetics brand Coloured Raine to create a collection inspired by the hit show.
This is the first time Power is partnering with a cosmetics brand, but it’s no surprise. We couldn’t expect Ghost to fade to black without something spectacular happening.
“I’m a big fan of the show! As an independent Black-owned brand, I feel honored that Starz entrusted us with this partnership opportunity,” said Loraine R. Dowdy, CEO of Coloured Raine Cosmetics. “I’m looking forward to this final season because I know our vision and product quality will make a POWERful end to the story!”
The collection will include liquid lipsticks and highly pigmented eyeshadows crafted after the show’s leading characters. So you can tap into your inner Tasha or your Angela alter ego, planning imminent takeovers while your beat stays intact. The limited edition collection will be available on August 25, the same day the show’s final season will premiere. And while no specifics beyond lipsticks and shadows have been released on the offerings, Coloured Raine has announced that the items will range in cost from $15 to $45, exclusively at colouredraine.com.
Coloured Raine was started in 2013 by Loraine R. Dowdy when she made the leap from a high-powered finance job to follow her dreams. She wanted to create a brand that served women of color and offered quality high-pigment hues for grown-ups to play with. She admits that the journey has had its challenges, with many not having faith in the brand simply because it’s Black-owned and with the struggle to get consumers’ attention and be taken seriously.
But she also encourages that anyone following in her footsteps to “stay fierce, and keep on serving that Black Girl Magic!” Coloured Raine has graced the faces of some of our favorite magical Black girls, such as Rihanna, Gabrielle Union, Tracee Ellis Ross, Regina Hall, Amara La Negra and Cardi B, among others. This collaboration with Starz is another step in moving the brand toward household name status.
“In partnering with Coloured Raine, we are able to bring our fans a distinctive collection of quality products that will allow them to re-create the trendsetting looks and defining style of Power’s leading ladies and make it their own,” said Alison Hoffman, chief marketing officer at Starz.
The anticipation behind the series finale is high, and show creator Courtney Kemp teased that Starz might have some spin-offs in the works, creating a “Power” universe where we’ll see the characters beyond the scope of the original show.
“I love the suspense of not knowing what’s the next play for the characters. You never really know what to expect with all the twists the creators have been giving us from season one,” Dowdy told ESSENCE. “You can’t help but to get so emotionally involved with the characters, so I will absolutely be tuning in for the spin-offs. [If there are any] future collaborations there, the opportunity would be very much welcomed!”
