Sunday night Hollywood turned the 2018 Golden Globes red carpet into a sea of black as the industry’s biggest stars donned the dark hue to show their support of the #MeToo and Time’s Up movements.
Viola Davis did just that in a gorgeous black Brandon Maxwell gown and glorious crown of curls. And while the “How To Get Away With Murder” actress’ dress was certainly stunning, it was her marvelous mane — styled by Jamika Wilson — that truly stole the spotlight.
Simply put, Afros are profoundly beautiful — but they have also served as symbols of resistance. That duality was perfectly illustrated the second Viola Davis hit the red carpet. Let’s be honest, wearing out hair in its natural state is a form a resistance in the face of society’s narrow standards of beauty.
This woman really knows how to service both style and substance!
