The BET Hip Hop Awards saw the television debut performance of ‘Chocolate Droppa’, Kevin Hart’s rapper alter ego — and he was more than we expected.
His debut stakes were high. Not only would it be on a national awards show that, but he was in a cypher against one of today’s greatest MCs: Lil’ Wayne.Ultimately, the Chicago-native held his own. But as the alter ego of the highest-paid comedian in the world, we had to track down his credentials. Here is what we learned:
Droppa promotes his music just as strongly as Hart promotes his movies
Kevin Hart always has a movie to promote, because he is constantly working. His latest, a stand-up comedy film, “What Now?” will be out on Oct. 14, the same day as Droppa’s new mixtape: “What Now? The Mixtape”.
He is signed to Motown
Yes, Droppa is signed to a legitimate label and is already putting music out. His latest song, “Push It On Me” featuring Trey Songz was released last week. But you can also catch him on the Migos and T.I.-assisted “Baller Alert”.

He had another career before he landed in the rap game
It was a tough choice between hand modeling or entering the music industry. “Hand modeling had taken off,” he told Billboard. “I was making money but the respect wasn’t there. So I was like I ain’t going to do this s–t.”
He wants to battle Justin Timberlake
Despite going toe-to-toe against the likes of Kendrick Lamar and Meek Mill, it’s ultimately Justin Timberlake that he wants to take down: “Me and Timberlake had words before. That’s really my hit list.”
He makes a mean… red velvet?
Never one to be humble, Droppa has said that he is a great baker. “My specialty is red velvet cake. “
Look out for Chocolate Droppa’s debut E, What Now: The Mixtape, out Oct. 14.
