On Sunday, a number of performers, including Beyoncé and Usher, took the stage for the Global Citizen Festival: Mandela 100.
The festival, which took place in South Africa and was broadcast to millions across the world, also featured an incredible performance from up-and-coming rapper and poet Sho Madjozi, whose family was front-and-center to cheer her on.
Madjozi might not be a household name just yet, but she’s surely set to take the world by storm.

The award-winning director called the rapper’s performance at the Global Citizen Festival “one of the highlights of my trip to South Africa.” Madjozi also performed at the U.S. leg of the Global Citizen festival earlier this year.

Madjozi’s Limpopo Champions League is set to drop Dec. 14. She recently shared the tracklist for the upcoming album, which features her latest hit, “Wakanda Forever.”

Sho Had A Few Career Plans Before Becoming A Rapper
The South African artist initially planned to pursue politics before heading to Mount Holyoke College in Massachusetts to obtain a degree in African Studies and Creative Writing. When she returned to South Africa, she thought of pursuing poetry and ghostwriting for other artists but realized “being a poet, financially, is not [easy].”
