It’s been more than 20 years since we were treated to a new Sister Act, but it looks like our wait is over!
The Hollywood Reporter reports that Disney announced today that its ultra-successful Sister Act franchise is coming back for a round three.
The original film, which came out in 1992, starred Whoopi Goldberg as Dolores, a lounge singer who was forced to enter the witness protection program as a nun after witnessing a mob crime. Goldberg hasn’t confirmed whether she will be returning for this movie.
Kristen “Kiwi” Smith and Karen McCullah, whose credits include Legally Blonde and The House Bunny, are slated to write the untitled film, and Alli Shearmur, who oversaw the recent live-action production of Cinderella, has signed on as producer.
No word yet on a release date, but in the meantime, we’ll be dusting off our VHS copies of the classic!
