In 2010, Antoine Dodson became one of the internet’s biggest memes.
Following an attack on his sister, Dodson was filmed speaking to a local TV reporter, declaring, “Hide your kids, hide your wife, and hide your husband cause they’re rapin’ everybody out here.”
Now, Dodson is opening up about his life after becoming a meme and internet sensation after the “Bed Intruder Song,” a remix of his interview by the Gregory Brothers, launched him into the spotlight.
Dodson sat down with BET for their latest video series I Went Viral and described his life during and after the event. In the video, the internet superstar, now a father and substitute teacher, revealed that two days later another person was attacked after authorities failed to catch the man who attacked his sister.
Dodson says he “really didn’t think nothing of it” when the video was first shared to YouTube, but, eventually, his interview took on a life of its own after it was remixed into the “Bed Intruder Song.” After becoming a pop culture fixture, Dodson headed to L.A. but the shadiness of Hollywood proved too much for him, so he headed back home.
Still, Dodson says the money from becoming a viral sensation helped his family move out of subsidized housing and now, he’s giving back to the community by working in the Huntsville School District.
