The world is still reeling from the loss of music’s Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin, who succumbed to advanced pancreatic cancer Thursday morning, but plans are underway for friends and fans to celebrate the singer’s life.
WDIV-TV in Detroit reports that a celebration of Franklin’s life is set to be a four-day event in Detroit.
While a private funeral, for family and friends, will be held at Greater Grace Temple, the public can remember the late singer as reportedly her body will lie in repose inside Detroit’s Charles H. Wright Museum for African American History.
Her family is also planning a special musical tribute, according to WDIV-TV.
The Detroit Free Pressconfirms that multiple events are in the works, but the late singer’s spokeswoman Gwendolyn Quinn said that details about the funeral and memorial arrangements are likely to be announced next week.
Shortly after her passing, the singer’s family thanked fans for their “incredible outpouring of love and support.”
“We have felt your love for Aretha and it brings us comfort to know that her legacy will live on. As we grieve, we ask that you respect our privacy during this difficult time.”
