Not only has this weekend’s 2014 Urbanworld Film Festival set the stage for filmmaker Ava DuVernay to have her first public conversation about her highly anticipated upcoming MLK film, SELMA, but now she will be joined by the film’s lead actor, David Oyelowo. Urbanworld’s Executive Producer Gabrielle Glore will also join the Saturday night panel and there will be behind-the-scenes clips and of course, an open dialogue and Q&A with DuVernay.
The 18th annual event, sponsored by BET, is the nation’s largest competitive multicultural film festival and will screen almost 70 films, from September 17-21 in New York. Ticket holders will get an opportunity to sit down with the filmmakers, stars and authors behind some of the most sought after films of the upcoming season.
Audiences can also catch a screening of Beyond the Lights, written and directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood (Love and Basketball) and starring Gugu Mbatha-Raw (Belle) and Nate Parker (Red Tails) on Thursday night, as well as a Q&A with them all moderated by Malcom Lee. Then on Friday night, the author of Addicted, Zane, and the men of the film (Boris Kodjoe, Tyson Beckford, and more) will be there for a sexy Q&A and exclusive looks at that film, moderated by Bevy Smith.
