A major aspect of Beyoncé’s majestic wonder and awesomness are her mind-blowing performances. And when it came to outfitting the superstar for The Formation World Tour no expense, detail, or rhinestone was spared.
If you haven’t had a chance to catch a show, we’re sure your social media timeline has been flooded with images and videos of Beyoncé slaying the stage in a number of head-turning costumes. And we’re not getting a closer look at those designs thanks to a behind-the-scenes video released via Bey’s Facebook page.
In the two and a half minute clip head costume designer Marni Senofonte and her assistant, Eyob Yohannes, take us through the journey they went through to create the show’s looks. They invited the world’s top fashion houses — including Balmain, Roberto Cavalli, DSquared2, Arsuko Kudo, and more — to dream up looks that fell inline with the tour’s Antebellum meets Victorian streetwear theme.
And best believe that Beyoncé was invloved in the entire process. After the fashion houses would send in their sketches Bey and Senofonte would make changes and suggestions — and send them back to the designers.
That attention to detail extends beyond Queen Bey’s wardrobe and right to her fierece fleet of dancers. The video shows seamstresses altering the dancers’ costumes in order for them to “bust a move” more freely. And they even dye the dancers’ fishnet stockings in crockpots — because as one assisntant explains: “The girls don’t all come in one color — so we’re trying to get the different shades to match the dancers’ skin tones.” Amen!
