Beyoncé’s publicist has dismissed rumors that the singer will be performing during ongoing Year of Return festivities in Ghana.
Hundreds of thousands have descended on the Ghanaian capital of Accra for events surrounding the Year of Return, including celebrities such as Ludacris, Jidenna, Boris Kodjoe and Bozoma Saint John.
But chatter of Beyoncé being in the West African nation to perform at the Afronation festival soon began to appear on different blogs and social media sites.
The rumors were initially just that…rumors. But they picked up pace once Beyoncé’s mother, Tina Knowles-Lawson, was seen at the Kotoka International Airport in Accra.
When ESSENCE caught up with her later that weekend during Year of the Return festivities, we asked Knowles-Lawson where in the world was Beyoncé.
“She’s at home. She’s with her babies,” the matriarch said.
Bey’s publicist, Yvette Noel-Schure, also put the rumors to rest in a post on Instagram on Friday.
“This is not true. Beyoncé is not performing in Ghana this weekend,” she wrote in response to a post that claimed Queen Bey was on the ground and ready to perform.
“Just here to deliver the truth. The official truth and nothing but the truth. Beyoncé is NOT performing in Accra, Ghana this weekend,” Noel-Schure captioned the post.
Despite the disappointing news, Noel-Schure did end her message with a note to those in Ghana to “have the most beautiful time.”
