A Timeline Of Beyoncé And JAY-Z's Relationship

Beyoncé revealed in an interview to Seventeen magazine back in 2008 that she and JAY-Z first met when she was 18 which means that met in late 1999 or early 2000.

In 2001, the new couple appeared together for the first time on Vanity Fair’s music issue and Jay was candid in 2013 interview with the magazine about that shoot being the very beginning of their budding romance when the singer was just 19 years old. “We were just beginning to try to date each other…Well, you know, you’ve got to try first,” he said. “You got to dazzle…wine and dine.”

Just 15 years ago, Yoncé and Hov emerged as the hip-hop power couple to watch with their first of many collaborations—’03 Bonnie and Clyde.

Even though the couple’s relationship status was still speculatory, Beyoncé solidified one thing—that she was crazy in love about her man. The singer dropped the first single from her debut solo album, “Crazy in Love” featuring the Brooklyn-born MC.

In what many would say was their official couple confirmation, the pair appeared for the first time together on the MTV VMAs red carpet rocking coordinating ensembles which was just the start of their epic matching moments.

Dropping her second solo album, B’Day, in September on her 25th birthday. The couple collaborated on not one but two tracks that definitely took their love—and status in the music game—up a notch. Just two months later, the couple’s duet count increased by one with another joint musical credit on Jay’s “Hollywood” from his album, Kingdom Come.

On April 4th, Beyoncé and JAY-Z officially became the Carters and the rest was history. In a super secret New York City ceremony, the couple swapped vows during an intimate ceremony that only included their families and super close friends. Years later, in an interview with ESSENCE, the star said that having an engagement ring wasn’t a big deal to her (although her wedding ring is a whopping 18-carats.)

“People put too much emphasis on that. It’s just material, and it’s just silly to me,” she said at the time.  The pair opted for matching ring finger tattoos of the Roman numeral for the four–their favorite number.

At the MTV VMAs in August, Beyoncé and her baby bump made their grand debut. While on the red carpet for the event, the songstress cradled her belly before hitting the stage to perform her second single from her album, 4.

Mr. and Mrs. Carter became mother and father of baby girl Blue Ivy with the birth of their little one in January.

The Carters made their grand debut as husband and wife at the first Inauguration for former President and First Lady Barack and Michelle Obama where Beyoncé sang “America The Beautiful” at the swearing-in ceremony and delivered a tear-jerking rendition of Etta James’ “At Last” as the First couple dance at the inaugural ball.

Fans get a look into the Carter’s highly private personal life with Beyoncé’s “Life Is But A Dream” HBO documentary special. The pair show behind the scenes moments from her pregnancy with Blue and even share a sweet serenade to each other to Coldplay’s hit song, “Yellow.”

Just a few months later, in December, Bey made the world stop by dropping her self-titled visual album including the hit, “Drunk In Love.”

Jay drops “Part II (On The Run) which becomes the catalyst to he and his wife’s joint world tour.

A defining moment in the Carters marriage will always be what happened on the elevator that faithful night with Bey’s sister Solange following the Met Gala in New York City. The incident prompted a response from the couple, Solange’s acknowledgment of the incident and the family worked to move past it.

Just a month after the elevator incident, the couple embarked on their joint 21-date “On The Run Tour.”

In April, Beyonce drops Lemonade—her most intimate and personal project to date in which she discusses miscarriages and infidelity as well as empowerment and strength.

Hov joined Bey on stage for the final show of her Formation World Tour which calmed all queries that the couples relationship was on the rocks following the release of Lemonade. At the end of the month, the family dressed as Barbie, Ken and baby Barbie and simply stole our hearts.

At the end of political season before the 2016 presidential campaign, the couple performed at a rally for then-presidential hopeful and former First Lady Hillary Clinton.

To kick off Black History Month with a bang, Beyoncé announced that she was pregnant with twins on Instagram much to the delight of fans around the world. Just weeks after the announcement, the Carters attended the Grammys together where the expectant mother of 3 took to the stage to perform and also collected a win for Best Urban Contemporary Album for Lemonade and thanked Jay in her speech.

In April, in celebration of nine years of marriage, Bey debut a new song dedicated to her husband called “Die With You.”

Beyoncé gave birth to twins—a daughter, Rumi and a son, Sir Carter. The singer confirmed their birth on Instagram one month after their arrival.

Just before the 4th of July holiday, the rapper dropped his 13th studio album, 4:44 which addressed the infidelities speculated about on Lemonade, apologized to his wife, their children and showcased a vulnerability previously unseen.

The pair enjoyed a date night away from their three little ones out to attend Rihanna’s 3rd annual Diamond Ball.

As JAY-Z prepared to take the stage at the Made In America music festival over Labor Day weekend, of course Bey was there to cheer him on and rap along to every lyric.

The Carters, along with daughter Blue, proved to be the perfect guests to an October wedding in New Orleans for close friends.
