Beyonce and Jay Z kicked off their ‘On the Run’ tour last night in Miami, Florida. The pair surprised the crowd with never-before-seen images of their super-private wedding in 2008. The footage was shown as they performed “Young Forever” from the 41-song set list. The couple performed a number of their hits including “03 Bonnie & Clyde,” “Crazy in Love” and “Drunk in Love.” The ‘On the Run’ tour makes it’s next stop in Cincinnati this Saturday. [E!News]
In other Beyonce news, the star took to her official website, penning a heartfelt letter in honor of Michael Jackson. “[He] taught me that sometimes you have to forget technique, forget what you have on,” she wrote on the fifth anniversary of his death. “Michael Jackson changed me, and helped me to become the artist I am thank you Michael.” [TheGrapeJuice]
Columbus Short’s divorce battle continues. The former Scandal actor failed to show up for family court and has been ordered to pay $17,005 a month in spousal support, $4,542 in child support and is responsible for his estranged wife’s $25,000 legal bill. Short has yet to respond to Tanee Short’s divorce petition. [TMZ]
The Fresh Prince of Bel Air star Karyn Parsons has launched a Kickstarter campaign to produce an animated film about African-American ballerina, Janet Collins. The film, which is being produced by Parson’s Sweet Blackberry non-profit organization, will tell the story of Collins’ journey to becoming the first Black ballerina to perform at the Metropolitan Opera House. Sweet Blackberry aims to highlight little-known stories to African-American children. [KickStarter]
D’Angelo is set to headline the 10th annual Afropunk Festival in Brooklyn from August 22 through 24. Lianne La Havas and Meshell Ndegeocello are also set to perform. [Vibe]
