There has been a lot of speculation circulating online recently surrounding Faith Evans’ relationship status after news broke last year that she Love and Hip Hop New York star Stevie J were officially dating.
During a radio interview on The Breakfast Club this week, Evans set the record straight once and for all and didn’t hold back on spilling the much-awaited tea.
Were she and Stevie ever romantically involved? Yes. Is he still her man? No. “He’s not anymore,” Faith told the show’s cohost Charlamagne tha God when asked about whether they’re still on.
When the hosts probed further, the typically guarded singer shared the story of how her longtime friendship with the mega producer and reality star went from platonic to romantic over time, mostly at his insistence. At first, she said, she didn’t pay much attention to his advances.

“I never took Stevie serious actually,” said Faith. “I think probably in the last 10 years, I would say, is he trying to flirt? Lets go. But I never saw him like that. I have always had plenty of male friends. Never dated any of them. I was just really cool like that. I think I really should have been a boy or something. But I’m just cool with dudes. I would check on him, just hear if he was going through stuff and find out how to get in touch with him….[I was] Just really sincerely his friend.”
Eventually, she revealed, they did in fact become more than friends after she began to see her old friend in a different way in 2016.
“I don’t know what made me even finally say okay, but he convinced me, I ain’t even gonna lie,” said Faith. “You know, I’m like, ‘you know I’m not about all the craziness. If I’m going to be in a relationship, it’s gotta be a serious one. You know?’ And I think probably for a few months he definitely went through the convincing and not getting a real response. You know, just, even though I was brushing him off, [he was] like, ‘no for real I really wanna be with you, I love you.’ And I’m like, ‘I love you too, but I don’t know if I wanna be with you.’ You know what I’m saying?”
That’s right, Faith revealed that her feelings for Stevie are stronger than fans may realize and when Charlamagne asked if she really “loved” him, she was quick to defend their bond.
“I still love him; I love him as a friend,” she added. “I love him but it’s not like I’m in love with him.”
So how did Stevie J, who has been romantically linked to co-star Joseline Hernandez, with whom he welcomed a child last year, finally over his good friend? Persistence, charm and honesty, she recalls.
“He just really convinced me that he really wanted to be in a relationship and convinced me that there was no one else in his life,” Faith explained.
But, she says, the magic didn’t last for long. Their breakup happened when she began to change her mind. “I just felt like I never was completely convinced,” Faith added. “I just felt like I’m not sure that you’re really ready. But I mean I was mature enough going into it, like, I know there’s a 50-50 chance it may not work out. But I have to be mature enough to be able to maintain our friendship. So I’m also smart enough to see when it’s time for me to….[points behind her]…and I did.”
Ultimately, it appears as if they wanted different things.
“I just don’t like the drama and I think he might be a little bit addicted to the drama,” she said.
Welp. There you have it folks.
