At the top of the year, Cleveland Cavaliers player J.R. Smith and his wife Jewel revealed their daughter Dakota was born five months premature. The couple tied the knot last summer and share two daughters, Demi and Peyton.
“We know we’re not the only family going through this, who has been through this or who will ever go through it,” Jewel said in the solemn Instagram video. “That’s why we decided to share what we’ve been going through with you guys. Please keep us in your prayers and we’ll do the same for everybody else.”

As reported by ESPN, the Cavaliers guard announced the pregnancy in October in a video also posted on Uninterrupted, in which he confirmed his contract extension with the team.
On Monday, Smith updated the world with a heartwarming photo holding his baby girl. “Today is one of the greatest days of my life,” he said. “Today I get to hold my youngest for the first time! GOD is GREAT! #DakotaStrong.”
We’re wishing the best for the Smith family as they fight this battle as a team.
